Diamond Drilling FAQs

What is diamond drilling?
Diamond drilling, also called core drilling, uses a hollow drill bit with industrial diamonds set into its cutting edge to cut clean, round holes through concrete, brick, block and stone. It cuts rather than hammers, so there’s no heavy vibration or cracking around the hole, and every hole comes out clean and to size.
LAP Diamond Drilling is based in Bristol and works across the South West and South Wales, including Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Swindon, Chippenham, Trowbridge, Frome, Wells, Taunton, Newport and Chepstow.

It depends on the shape of the opening. Core drilling makes round holes, from small service holes for cables and pipes to large cores for extraction and ventilation. Concrete saw cutting makes straight cuts and square openings, such as doorways, windows and drainage channels. Wall and floor chasing cuts narrow channels for cables, conduit and pipes. Not sure? From small service holes up to 300mm cores, through concrete, reinforced concrete, brick, block and stone. Diamond bits cut through rebar as well as concrete, and Liam has cored 300mm holes through heavily reinforced walls. For larger openings he uses stitch drilling, a line of overlapping cores, or saw cutting.
Much less than breaking out with a hammer drill. Drilling and cutting are done wet, which keeps dust to a minimum, and wet drilling is the dust control HSE recommends for coring concrete. There’s no heavy vibration, which makes it better suited to occupied homes and working buildings, and the area is cleaned up before Liam leaves.
LAP is a member of the Drilling and Sawing Association, and Liam holds CSCS, IPAF and PASMA cards and is trained for confined-space work. That clears him for commercial sites, from main contractor projects like Skanska’s IKEA job to a single extractor hole in a kitchen, and LAP is rated 5.0 on Google.
