Working in Swindon

A Town Built on Industry

Swindon grew up around the Great Western Railway works, and it's still a working town. Along the M4 there are large warehouses, distribution centres, industrial units and business parks, alongside the older town and a lot of newer housing.

That means much of the work here is heavy concrete: cutting trenches and channels in warehouse floors, cutting new door and loading openings in walls, and coring large holes for ducts and services. It also means homes, from the stone cottages of the Railway Village to new estates on the edge of town.

01

Industrial Floors

Thick concrete slabs in warehouses and units, cut with a walk-behind floor saw for drainage channels, service trenches and slab removal, at a set depth and in straight lines.

02

Loading and Door Openings

New openings in concrete and block walls of industrial and commercial units, cut with a track-mounted wall saw so the edges are straight and square.

03

Railway Village Homes

The Railway Village is a conservation area of around 300 stone cottages built for the railway workers. Before drilling or cutting there, check with Swindon Borough Council whether the work needs consent.

How we cut a floor trench

Saw Cutting a Drainage Trench

Adding a drain, a channel or a service route to a finished floor is one of the most common jobs on industrial and commercial sites around Swindon.

Two parallel cuts are made with a floor saw, set to the depth of the slab, along the line of the trench. The strip between them is broken out and lifted away, leaving straight, clean edges for the new channel or pipe to be laid and the floor to be made good.

Because the saw cuts rather than breaks the edges, the rest of the slab isn't cracked or loosened, and there's far less concrete to make good afterwards.

FAQs

Diamond Drilling in Swindon: Your Questions

Do you cover Swindon and North Wiltshire?

Yes. Swindon is about 40 miles from our base in Bristol along the M4. We cover the town, the business parks around it and nearby towns like Royal Wootton Bassett, Highworth, Chippenham and Cirencester.

Can you cut trenches in a warehouse floor for drainage?

Yes. Two parallel cuts are made with a floor saw at the depth of the slab, then the strip between them is broken out, leaving straight edges for the new channel or pipe.

Can you cut a new loading or door opening in an industrial unit?

Yes. Openings in concrete walls are cut with a track-mounted wall saw for straight, square edges. A new opening in a structural wall needs an engineer's design and any temporary support in place before cutting.

Do you work in the Railway Village?

Yes. The Railway Village is a conservation area, so check with Swindon Borough Council whether your cottage is listed or the work needs consent before booking. Diamond coring keeps the stone around the hole clean.

Do you do dowel drilling and resin anchoring?

Yes. We drill accurate holes for steel dowels and resin anchors when new concrete is tied into existing slabs or walls.

How do I get a price for a job in Swindon?
